a. Serves as Occupational Health Nurse for Occupational Health Service (OHS), Armed Forces Research Institute for Medical Science. Plans, manages, and conducts the Occupational Health Nursing Program which encompasses over 500 military/civilian personnel involved in medical research, military training, administrative functions, storage and handling of hazardous materials
b. Participates in short and long range planning to coordinate occupational health and safety requirements with command goals and mission requirements for AFRIMS.
c. Plans and implements health maintenance programs and medical surveillance screening programs.
d. Counsels and interviews employees, interprets medical and work histories and how they relate to safe and healthful work practices and procedures.
e. Plans, organizes, develops, and directs health and safety educational efforts throughout area supported. Provides orientation, training and counseling to soldiers, employees and management personnel on health problems, prevention of health hazards in the work area, symptoms of specific occupational illnesses and resources for health care.
f. Assists military and civilian supervisors in the preparation of occupational health and safety policies, SOP's, standards, guides, and similar materials pertaining to health and safety within the various operations and activities.
g. Maintains records (employee health records, technical reference files, and routine office correspondence files).
h. Conducts health education classes to insure that military and civilian supervisors are aware of their responsibility to inform all personnel who work with hazardous materials of the potential hazards to which they may exposed, relevant symptoms and precautions for safe use. Provides informal on-site health hazard training to workers identified as being potentially exposed to job related hazards. Participates in employee health aspects of supervisors training programs.
i. Assists in preparation of preplacement and annual job related physical evaluations, sufficient in detail to make recommendation for proper placement consistent with job requirements.
j. Coordinates the occupational immunization program by identifying those personnel at risk and providing or referring them after counseling, appropriate immunizations.
