
- Responsible to the Librarian who acts as Line Manager.
- Works closely with the rest of the library team to provide an excellent library service to all members of the school community; teachers, students and parents, and keep the physical library and all of its services running smoothly.
- Show leadership in the library team; take initiative to improve the library and its services; serve as a role model for the other library assistants.
- Helps to promote reading to all members of the school community, and advises on information access.
- Help to create a welcoming environment in the library.
- Work with students of all ages, from 3-11 years.
- Assist with the training of other library assistants.
- Provide assistance ( using the Library catalogue) for teachers (students) and parents.
- Process check-in and check-out of books using the Library catalogue.
- Sorting and shelving book according to their category and (running an inventory of books).
- Maintaining records of lost and damaged books.
- Ensure library stock is in good order and repaired when needed.
- Process library materials.
- Set up patrons on the Library software system.
- Deal with students’ enquiries and supervise students in the library.
- Promote reading by assisting with library events and reading sessions.
- Help students find the information they need.
- Perform clerical activities such as filing, typing, word processing, photocopying and displays.
- Promote the speaking and learning of English.
- Keep the library running smoothly, solving problems as they arise or passing them on to an experienced person to deal with.
- Help to run the library monitor programme.
- Leading some Early Years library sessions cataloguing.
- Assist the Librarian with collection development and ordering of new books.
- Help to plan and implement library promotions and events.
