Core Responsibilities:
● Create and maintain a library that is physically attractive, easily accessible and provides a positive work environment for children and staff.
● Manage the library collection to meet curriculum needs and promote reading for pleasure.
● Develop and implement a library skills program, which supports learning and teaching at SBS Bangkok.
● Promote adherence to copyright and intellectual property rights following guidelines established within the school
Management:
● Propose, manage and control the library budget, following school guidelines.
● Manage the collection (cataloguing, indexation, circulation and organization), to facilitate its use effectively.
● Conduct an annual inventory of library resources and remove from the collection obsolete, damaged and inappropriate materials.
● Publish relevant statistics on stock and library use regularly, as required and at least once a year.
● Order resources and manage subscriptions.
● Manage and promote online resources, databases and periodicals
Students and Learning:
● Encourage and support all children to fully utilize the resources and services of the library.
● Encourage student’s awareness and use of a wide variety of media and promote the use of library resources and independent reading for pleasure, through displays and events.
● Create a welcoming library environment, reflective of school behavior expectations, and conducive to learning.
● Conduct systematic and periodic evaluations of the effectiveness of the library program and adapt it to the evolution of technology, changes in the curriculum, and the needs of teachers and students.
● Schedule the use of the library and resources by classes, groups and individuals to ensure optimal use of the space available.
● Assist students in identifying, locating, evaluating, understanding and using information required for research purposes.
● Encourage independent reading for pleasure.
● Provide materials appropriate to a variety of interests, ability levels and national /ethnic backgrounds, supporting the languages taught at the school.
● Support students with research tasks
Teachers and Teaching:
● Collaborate with faculty to plan, deliver and evaluate an information skills program and continuum across the school.
● Work with teachers to develop the collection with the selection of library materials to support teaching and learning.
● Keep teachers informed of new library materials / resources related to their specific teaching areas.
● Provide assistance and support to teachers by helping them identify and reserve research resources appropriate to specific teaching units.
● Prepare bibliographies and reading lists as appropriate or requested.
● Plan and conduct development opportunities for library staff and school faculty.
● Organize the induction of new teachers in the use of the Library.
● Teach and support students to reference correctly and efficiently, assisting with the use of appropriate software required for referencing.
Community:
● Collaborate with the other AOI school Librarians in pursuit of a common sense of purpose, coordinated policies and a uniformly high quality of library provision.
● Periodically inform the faculty, student and parent community of new acquisitions, special events and developments pertaining to the library and its program.
● Liaise with external local and international librarians, professional groups, educational bodies, etc. to enhance the school’s access to a rich learning environment.
