Job Summary:
This critical leadership role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance and operation of all crane assets within our port facility. You will oversee a large team of approximately 50 crane engineers, technicians, and supervisors, ensuring optimal crane performance through robust maintenance programs, with a particular emphasis on electrical systems. The successful candidate will drive maintenance excellence, implement best practices, and significantly contribute to the port's productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Reliability:
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all crane equipment, focusing on electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Oversee a team of approximately 50 crane engineers and technicians, as well as external contractors, to ensure timely and high-quality repairs and overhauls.
- Manage spare parts inventory for critical crane components, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Analyze equipment failures, especially those related to electrical and control systems, and implement root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and improve reliability.
- Stay updated on new crane technologies and recommend upgrades or replacements to enhance efficiency and safety.
Operational Oversight:
- Collaborate with planning and operations teams to align maintenance activities with overall port schedules and priorities, minimizing downtime.
- Monitor crane performance metrics (e.g., uptime, downtime) and implement corrective actions as needed.
Safety & Compliance:
- Champion a strong safety culture among all crane personnel, ensuring strict adherence to all port, national, and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments for crane maintenance activities.
- Investigate all crane-related incidents and near-misses, implementing corrective and preventive measures.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of approximately 50 crane engineers, technicians, and supervisors.
- Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs (especially in electrical and control systems), and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and labor relations within the crane maintenance department for both day and night shifts.
Budget & Cost Management:
- Develop and manage the annual budget for crane maintenance operations.
- Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or efficiency.
- Manage contracts with suppliers and service providers for crane parts and maintenance.
